Poor widdle beauty queen.

There's a media war right now between Perez Hilton and Miss California. In essence it boils down to this: During the Miss America pageant, she was asked about her views on gay marriage. Her unimaginative response was: "I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman." She was then attacked by Perez Hilton, who became enraged, employed some rather nasty language at her, and has reiterated his vitriol on his blog, including use of the (gasp) C-word. While I understand Mr. Hilton's anger, his attacks on Miss California seem to have pushed media sentiment toward her side.

I agree whole heartedly that it's really time for this country to accept that love comes in all forms, and that just because some types of love make some people uncomfortable, this is no reason at all to infringe on the rights of others. However, I saw this story being covered over and over in the media, and people are siding with the beauty queen. She's being painted as the poor little victim, and she's getting all kinds of sympathy, even on the supposedly liberal MSNBC. A more careful response from Mr. Hilton could have manipulated the media in the opposite direction, and could have won more support from moderate America.

More importantly, moderate Americans need to realize that just because one gay rights activist uses shocking language against an appealing, if vapid, beauty queen doesn't mean his cause is unjust.

I find that Perez Hilton shouldn't have asked that question to just her. Even though it is a question our country needs to answer, I think that they should have asked ALL of the girls. They still represent America in one way or another, so America should know what all of them think.

That's a great point. I didn't know that he asked just Miss Cali.

I don't understand why Perez Hilton is taken so seriously -- he's a self-proclaimed media clown; he dances around in front of people hoping to get their attention
